3 COVID-19 subvariants on the rise, officials say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Three COVID-19 subvariants are taking over across the country.

In Florida, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has put more than 80% of the state at a high risk, and the state is averaging about 10,000 cases a day.

A lot of cases are going unreported, whether from the lack of public testing or at-home test kits.

CDC data shows that, right now, Florida is second in new adult admissions to the hospital.

In Orange and Seminole counties, hospitalizations are up 27%, and up 30% in Osceola County.

There are three new subvariants of the virus. Subvariant BA2.121 is the most dominant, accounting for two out of every three cases.
