Lanes of Florida’s Turnpike reopen 7 hours after double fatal crash in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a deadly crash Friday morning that closed the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike for seven hours.

Troopers said the crash happened after 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near U.S. 27 in Lake County.

The crash involved two tractor trailers and four passenger vehicles, troopers said.

Investigators said two people died in the multi-vehicle crash.

Troopers said southbound traffic on Florida’s Turnpike was diverted at the 289 mile marker for hours as clean up continued.

The lanes of the highway reopened around 3 p.m.
